Web Basics

Here are some Web Basics.

When you are looking at webpages you are using something called a Web Browser. A Web Browser is a program that lets you browse the Web or Internet. Today's Web Browsers, such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, can browse webpages, download files, and even run special software programs for the Web.

Some of the navigation features of these programs are, back and next buttons, a stop button, a refresh button, and a home button. The back and next button will load the previous webpage or the next webpage, respectively, in the history of webpages that you have viewed. The stop button will stop a webpage from loading. This can be useful if a page is taking a long time to load, or if it contains offensive content. The refresh button will load the webpage you are currently viewing again. The home button will take you to the webpage that loads when you first open your browser.

Browsers also have some other tools avaiable. One useful tool is the "Favorites", or "Bookmark", list. You can add webpage addresses to this list so that you don't have to remember all of them. When you want to return to that page you simply click on the entry in you favorites list and the browser will go to that page. You can also organize your favorites to make it easier to find the one you want. This is especially nice if you have a lot of favorites.

Another useful tool is the search tool. This works the same way that a seach engine does. You type in what you want to search for on the Internet and you will get a list of webpages that fit the description that you entered.
